increased productivity. Our brand new Proficy DataMart takes advantage of powerful data cubing technology to provide a platform for reducing time, cost and complexity of developing ad-hoc reports and analyses. It is a great solution for companies that consider themselves to be "data-rich, but information-poor."
Our Control Systems business grew as well this year with the addition of some very important process control products we acquired from MTL Instruments Group plc. These products include a superior line of SIL2 controls, intrinsically safe rated I/O modules and process control technologies. GE Fanuc is now able to fully address the safety system needs of key process industries including Oil & Gas, Chemical & Petrochemical, Water/Wastewater, Natural Gas, and Pulp & Paper.
And, our breakthrough motion solution, PACMotion, delivers the ultimate in scalable motion control for complex applications. Craig Resnick of ARC Advisory Group lauded this new solution as an extension of our industry-leading PACSystems platform "to better address the integration issues confronting manufacturers."
This year also marked the fifth anniversary of the launch of our PACSystems. In 2003, this new hardware platform represented a revolutionary change in the control industry, one that enabled control convergence rather than mere integration of disparate parts and pieces. Now, five years later, we celebrate this flexible technology and how it helps users boost the overall performance of their automation systems, reduce engineering costs, and significantly decrease concerns regarding short- and long-term migration and platform longevity.
We have a great team of people here at GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms that are committed to your business and I am very proud of the work we do to provide value to you. In these challenging times, our goal is to provide you with the benefit of our significant engineering expertise allowing you to do more with less. We understand that now, more than ever, the crucial need to deliver productivity and efficiency in your business. Our solutions will help you realize those goals and we will keep challenging ourselves to provide products and services to meet your needs.
Thanks again for your continued business.

As we near the close of 2008, I would like to take the opportunity to thank you, our loyal customers, for your continued support and pledge to you our dedication to your business in the coming year. This has been a difficult economic year around the world, but our resolve remains strong and we are committed to supplying you with the best products and services to give you a sustainable advantage for your future.
I have traveled around the world this year and have seen some fantastic implementations of GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms hardware, software and embedded systems.
In Brazil, our Production Management software is playing a key role in this country's growing energy production businesses as well as pharmaceutical production. In the Middle East, our Proficy HMI/SCADA products are helping these growing countries make headway in building their infrastructure for water/wastewater, cooling, transportation and power. And, in Africa, our automation solutions are controlling mines, managing electricity distribution and helping pulp and paper plants fix their downtime issues.
I also have spent a good deal of time in Asia and am proud of the projects that are going on in that region. Proficy Process Systems has been widely accepted by process industries in China looking to deploy proven technologies to gain system stability and reliability and limit their maintenance commitment. Speed to deployment is key in this region and our products have met the challenge.
In 2008, GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms launched an unprecedented number of products, many of which are the result of input from customers – Proficy HMI/SCADA - iFIX 5.0, for instance, features alarm-management enhancements, an easier-to-configure user interface for network and alarm filters, and event trapping support for VBA scripting commands. iFIX 5.0 has received great feedback and we are hoping it will help a lot of company’s businesses.
Our software business continues to grow with new products that address the needs of customers for
