GE Intelligent Platforms REACH Compliance

The Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals Regulation 1907/2006, commonly referred to as "REACH", is Europe's new chemicals legislation, which is applicable in all European Union Member States and Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland. REACH enables gathering information, assessing human health and environmental risks, and authorizing or restricting the sale and use of chemicals in the EU. REACH can impact producers and importers of finished goods and users of chemicals for industrial or professional activities. Requirements are being implemented in phases over several years, beginning in 2008.

GE Intelligent Platforms supports the objective of this regulation, strives to improve the protection of human health and the environment, and will meet all applicable REACH requirements. We are strongly committed to working with our customers and suppliers to implement the REACH requirements and ensure compliance within specified timeframes.

GE Intelligent Platforms Declaration Regarding the REACH “Duty to Communicate Information on Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) in Articles”:
 

GE Intelligent Platforms products, including accessories and packaging are considered “articles” under REACH. These products do not contain substances that are intended to be released during the normal and reasonably foreseeable conditions of use. An initial candidate list pursuant to Article 59 of REACH has been published by the European Chemicals Agency (http://echa.europa.eu/chem_data_en.asp). Based on our initial and ongoing review, GE Intelligent Platforms has no currently available information that our products and goods supplied to customers contain a SVHC candidate list substance above a concentration of 0.1% by weight of the article(s) supplied.

Additional Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) FAQs:
 

1. Has GE Intelligent Platforms initiated a process to comply with pre-registration obligations before 1 December 2008?
 

GE Intelligent Platforms products that are produced in the EU, and those that are imported into the EU, are considered articles under the REACH regulation. These products do not contain substances that are intended to be released during the normal and reasonably foreseeable conditions of the product’s use as, defined by the REACH Regulation and guidance. In addition, we do not manufacture any chemical substances, nor do we import any into the EU. Therefore, it is our understanding that GE Intelligent Platforms does not have a pre-registration or registration obligation.

We are contacting our suppliers, and confirming that they will meet their pre-registration requirements under REACH in order to ensure our supply chain will not be interrupted as a result of REACH.
 

2. Will you discontinue any products as a result of REACH?
GE Intelligent Platforms does not currently plan to discontinue any products as a result of the REACH regulatory requirements.
